What is a window well insert?

A piece of thin sheet metal (usually aluminum coil stock) cut to fit the shape of a window well that is installed in the window well with caulking and aluminum nails for the purpose of making it smooth and cleanable. Smooth vinyl flashing without an embossed or stamped texture or pattern, or other types of sheet metal may be used such as aluminum flashing or sheet copper. Any vinyl flashing used for window well inserts must be suitable for exterior use and be resistant to degradation from exposure to ultraviolet light or made from "UV stabilized" vinyl. Steel or other ferrous or galvanized sheet metals are not suitable for window well inserts. No this doesn’t include vinyl siding, aluminum foil, or plastic sheeting.
