Meet Our Member: Jon Hoover

Volunteer and Services Coordinator, Morningside Shelter

Having previously worked at the Morningside Shelter part-time, Jon Hoover easily Jontransitioned to his role as the shelter's AmeriCorps member.  Jon appreciates the diversity of tasks involved in serving as the Volunteer and Services Coordinator. Any given moment may be spent on volunteer coordination, case management, or program design. Some of Jon's special projects include putting together a playground for the shelter's children and serving as the volunteer coordinator for Brattleboro's Winter Emergency Shelter. Jon spends his time playing the piano and fishing.

Why did you join VHCB AmeriCorps?

I had worked part-time at Morningside Shelter and when the AmeriCorps position opened it was a great opportunity to get more involved.

What are you learning or gaining out of your service?

I knew nearly nothing about affordable housing issues and very little about homelessness, now I know a lot more.

What’s the best thing about serving at your site?

My co-workers are great.

What would you like other people to know about serving in AmeriCorps?

I was skeptical about what it would be like but I've been pleasantly surprised.

VHCB AmeriCorps is a program of the
Vermont Housing & Conservation Board.
