Presented by Lisa Sasser

Vermont’s historic buildings are a rich legacy and serve many uses as homes, commercial structures and public buildings. In order to insure their ongoing usefulness, cost effective operation, and historic integrity, it is crucial that we be attentive to the maintenance and material needs of these structures.

This day long workshop is designed to help owners, maintenance personnel, and property managers of historic buildings implement an appropriate maintenance process and learn more about materials specific to Vermont’s historic buildings.

What will you learn?

• Basic assessment techniques and maintenance routines for different building elements;
• Recordkeeping systems and project planning;
• Knowledge of various building materials, repair options, and when to use specialized contractors;
• Review of preservation vocabulary;
• Meeting preservation easement requirements;
• Financial and other resources to help maintain and improve your building.

Presenter:
Lisa Sasser has made significant contributions to the preservation trades as a consultant and teacher on the conservation, repair and maintenance of historic structures. An architect, former manager with the National Park Service and founding member and recent past president of the Preservation Trades Network, Lisa is the principal of Quid Tum Historic Structures Consulting.

The cost of registration includes a copy of Managing Maintenance for Older and Historic Buildings by John Leeke. This valuable manual explains the key steps of maintenance programming (Assess, Plan, Maintain, and Evaluate) to reduce deterioration and save money. You can preview the book at: www.historichomeworks.com/hhw/reports/MantSample.pdf

Please bring your questions and photos related to your own historic structures! During lunch, Vermont contractors that specialize in historic masonry, plaster and woodwork will be available to answer questions.

Registration:
The workshop is limited to 30 participants. Please register no later than March 29, 2010. The cost of $25 includes lunch, text and
training.
