The owner of the property where you are currently a tenant is seeking assistance from this Program to identify and reduce the lead-based paint hazards in your rental unit. In order to determine if the property is eligible for assistance, we need you to complete the attached Resident Income Verification Form with your household's income. This information will be kept strictly confidential and will be used only to determine the eligibility of your rental unit.
Following is a brief summary of how our Program operates:
Testing for Young Children
The Vermont Department of Health recommends that all children under age six be tested for lead at least once; and more often if they live in housing that contains lead paint. If you have young children that have not been tested recently, we strongly encourage you to do so as soon as possible. Lead poisoning has no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know if there is a problem is to get your children tested. The Vermont Department of Health, through their local health offices, provides free lead screening clinics throughout the State. Contact them at 1-800-439-8550 for more information about the location and date of a clinic near you.
Please complete the attached Resident Income Verification Form
and return it to your landlord, or directly to us at:

Notice of Non-Displacement & Temporary Relocation
This is to inform you that, if assistance is provided to your landlord and the property in which you are living has lead paint hazard control work undertaken, you will not be permanently displaced. Because Federal assistance will be involved, you are protected from displacement by the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies of 1970, as amended. However, if you do decide to move permanently for reasons of your own, you will not be eligible for relocation assistance.
It is likely that you will need to be temporarily relocated from your rental unit while the lead paint hazard control work is being completed. Either someone from the VHCB Lead-Based Paint Hazard Reduction Program or your landlord will be in touch with you to discuss the need and timing of temporary relocation.
If you have to be temporarily relocated, assistance will be provided to help cover additional reasonable living costs. If necessary, you will be provided with assistance in finding suitable temporary housing.
