Family Services Specialist
Full-Time Position

Overall Responsibility:

The Family Service Specialist will work intensively with families following the Family Economic Development model. The goal is to provide resources and support to ensure permanent housing and a positive quality of life.

Responsibilities:

Principal Duties:
Meet with families and individuals on an as needed basis in their homes
Assist families with tools to determine their goals
Advocacy with agencies on behalf of families
Coordinate various plans and ensure there is a common goal
Access resources for families that have not been tapped
Assist families with self-advocacy
Assist agency staff with gathering volunteers for golf tournament, homeless memorial service, moving clients, mentoring clients, and for Family Celebrations

Administrative Duties:
Maintain client case notes
Maintain mileage records
Access training on an as needed basis
Database entry
Attend local housing coalition meeting

  • Potentially an increased sense of individual abilities and strengths for involved residents.

Qualifications:
Direct experience working with low-income families and individuals. Must be detail oriented, and consistent with keeping accurate notes on progress towards self-identified goals. In addition, this position requires a person to be non-judgmental and compassionate. Must have the ability to communicate and work effectively with all walks of life. The Family Service Specialist will have a knowledge base of resources in the community. Computer skills a must as well as the ability to teach budgeting. This person will be able to communicate effectively the goal of the Rutland County Housing Coalition and will be an advocate for the clientele and the community.

Start/End Dates: September 24, 2007 – August 22, 2008

Benefits: $12,825 stipend for part-time position, $4,725 education award at end of term, health insurance for 11+ month, 1700 hour commitment, childcare if state eligible, and numerous and diverse training opportunities.
