Responsibilities:
The Upper Valley Haven, a human service agency in White River Junction, VT is looking for an AmeriCorps member to provide housing and resident services for families at their homeless shelter five days a week during the late afternoon/evening. The schedule will include week end hours.
After a thorough training period with Haven shelter staff, the ACM will be encouraged to design and implement a new program for the Haven shelter guest families. The nature of the program will depend upon the ACM interests and experience. The program could include life skills education, youth programming, or other areas. The ACM would have the opportunity to manage volunteers during their time working for the Haven.
The AmeriCorps member may also be involved with outreach activities, including newsletter distribution and marketing.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have excellent listening skills and have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Training or experience in working with people living in poverty is preferred, but is not required.
Start and End Dates: Start Immediately and end August 22, 2008
Benefits: $6,790 stipend, $2,362 education award at end of term, health insurance, childcare if state eligible, training opportunities.
