Applegate Housing Inc., Bennington
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
Part-Time Position

Overall Responsibility:

Professional and hands on work involving the development and coordination of programs provided to Applegate residents enhancing participation and inclusion in the community.

Responsibilities:
  • Further develop and coordinate activities that involve Applegate residents such as after school programs, literacy and educational programs, nutrition and cooking, job skills and job placement. 
  • Coordination of existing programs. Arts and crafts, lending library, computer lab, cooking and dinner nights with children.
  • Work with local nonprofit organizations and other service providers to create trainings, workshops, educational and recreational programming.Programs should be offered on-site when possible. 
  • Create opportunities to build connections between Applegate and the larger Bennington community by networking and creating volunteer opportunities through activities such as Applegate’s garden project, the parade project and holiday events. 
  • Establish a means of regular communication between ARA, individual residents, management, and interested community parties. Occasional attendance at ARA, AHI, and committee meetings are a few components of the communication plan. 
  • Provide transportation to social services, activities, etc. in the Applegate community van.
  • Prepare and coordinate the Applegate monthly newsletter to be distributed at the end of the prior month
  • Maintain program log for use by future AmeriCorps members

Long Term Effects Include:

  •  Stronger and more inclusive residential community
  • A greater sense of community and neighborhood at Applegate apartments
  • Potentially an increased sense of individual abilities and strengths for involved residents.
  • A fun and inspiring learning experience for the member who is making a difference in many lives.

Qualifications:

  • Experience and comfort working with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literate
  • Compassionate, creative, patient, outgoing, organized and self –directed.
  • Valid driver’s license

Start/End Dates: September 24, 2007 – August 22, 2008

Benefits: $6,790 stipend for part-time position, $2,362 education award at end of term, health insurance for 11+ month, 900 hour commitment, childcare if state eligible, and numerous and diverse training opportunities.

Supervision: The Executive Director of Applegate Housing Inc. will supervise the AmeriCorps Member.
