Member qualifications:

  • Education level- BA or equivalent experience in related field
  • Computer literate and experience with Microsoft office
  • Good writing and interpersonal skills-including basic math skills
  • One year experience with teaching, counseling, or affordable housing related work, preferred
  • Strong desire to provide service to the community, highly motivated, well organized, self-starter, and team player
  • Reliable vehicle with some in-state travel required
  • Based in St. Albans office 

The goal of the Education and Outreach Assistant will be to increase and improve upon the services offered to current and future homeowners. Work will focus primarily on assisting with the homebuyer education programs offered at the HomeOwnership Centers in both Chittenden and Franklin/Grand Isle, and following an outreach plan that will help to improve these services. The overall goal is to help potential homeowners obtain the dream of homeownership, and to ensure that they are successful.

Service Responsibilities will include:

  • Learn the overall workings of the Champlain Housing Trust and the Homeownership Center and  provide basic information to people who call wanting more information
  • Develop an understanding of the various homeownership options, including the types of properties available, the sources of funding and eligibility
  • Assist with monthly workshops
  • Assist with the Center’s marketing and outreach efforts
  • Assist with lender and community partner outreach
  • Compile testimonials with interviews and photos of customers and partners
  • Will work with supervisor to create and implement a year long project to benefit sponsor organization and customers served

Supervision: Reports to HOC Counselor Coordinator

Start/End dates: Sept. 24, 2007 - Aug. 22, 2008

Part-Time: 900 hours; $6,790 stipend, $2,362 education award upon completion, health insurance, childcare if state eligible, and numerous and diverse training opportunities.
