Montpelier Parks Department/Trust for Public Lands
Montpelier Parks and Statehouse Path Steward
half-time (900 hours)

AmeriCorps and Montpelier Parks are providing an extraordinary opportunity for individuals who are interested in learning in and serving the Montpelier community and region. We are looking for someone who can help with a variety of tasks including helping with parts, or all, of the following activities:

1. Maintain and improve Montpelier's parks, including facilities;
2. Organizing and working with numerous volunteers and groups throughout the year. In the summer, lead crews in general park maintenance and park improvements;
3. Making signs;
4. Trail maintenance, restoration and improvement;
5. Creating new park spaces;
6. Fine tuning and implementing a wildlife and vegetation management plan;
7. Building composting toilets;
8. Nature trail improvements.

Other possibilities, time permitting:

9. Assist in conducting a natural resource inventory and/or other aspects of an Open Space Study.

Starting and Ending Dates/Hours: At least 900 hours of service between the start of the service term and August 22, 2008. Due to the nature of this primarily outdoor position, it is generally the case that the AmeriCorps member serves more hours in the summer months and less hours during the winter.  

Benefits: $6,790 living stipend and $2,362 education award. Basic health insurance, child care if state eligible, and diverse training opportunities.
