CHILD PARENT OUTREACH COORDINATOR

The Child Parent Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for outreach, family support, and developing youth programs in RACLT neighborhoods. The Child Parent Outreach Coordinator will work closely with the Resident Services Coordinator, Committees, and youth in RACLT neighborhoods to develop after-school and summer programs for youth residing in RACLT neighborhoods.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Building positive relationships with youth and families residing in RACLT neighborhoods through outreach and informal interactions.
- Work directly with youth populations in RACLT neighborhoods on various areas of youth program development. Work closely with RACLT Resident Services Coordinator, community organizations, schools, and steering committees to assist in implementing and coordinating programs.
- Coordinate and work with local organizations to identify and implement educational and recreational programs available to youth within the community.
- Attend meetings of residents, resident services committee, and steering committees.
- Assist youth in seeking and acquiring scholarships for recreation programs, summer camps, and educational opportunities. Assist teens with employment, education, and community service opportunities.
- Developing, implementing, and directly running on-site after-school and summer youth programs.
- Assist with current activities and programs.
- Recruit and support volunteer and resident involvement in planning, implementing, and running youth activities.
- Perform other work as assigned.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Applicant must be over 17 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalency.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Creativity and innovation in program development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with diverse populations of youth and families.
- Demonstrates ability to use a positive approach when working with youth of various ages and backgrounds.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects.
- An understanding of issues faced by low-income families would be beneficial.
TERMS OF SERVICE: This position is bound by the terms of the individual’s agreement with Americorps and VHCB. The ARSC will be supervised by the RACLT Executive Director.
Start/End dates: Sept. 24, 2007 - Aug. 22, 2008
Full Time: $12,825 stipend, $4,725 education award, health insurance, child care subsidy if eligible and excellent training opportunities for 1700 hours of service.
